biches & bûches no. 55 // knitting kit

some years ago, i saw a photo of a very elegant woman dressed all in off-white with a short, knitted sweater and a pair of trousers and ever since, i have been thinking about creating this sweater as a knitting kit. this was my inspiration for the biches & bûches sweater no.55, that ended up being larger with more comfort and hygge. the design was also a collaboration with knitters testing the pattern and we owe a huge thank you to Lisa, Tania, Sabine, Caroll, Claire, and Abby (who also made some very pretty drawings for the pattern).

we have created 4 different color combinations that you can discover on the photographs :
01_ off-white (couleur originale)
02_ light grey
03_ dark grey
04_ dark green
05_ custom colors : you can choose any color of our "le gros lambswool". you can see all of the shades on the wool product page and just fill out the form underneath !

the wool : it is the biches & bûches "le gros lambswool", a natural and 100% lambswool from scotland.

astrid knit the sweater with needle size 4 mm/UK 8/US 6 + 4.5 mm/UK 7/US 7 + a 3 mm straight needle for picking up stitches  - which you can find in our tools shop !

 tension/gauge : 16 stitches and 22 rows/rounds = 10cmx10cm [4"x4”] in stocking stitch, worked flat and in the round.

kit sizes : each size has its kit !
pattern sizes : x-small / medium / large / x-large / 2x-large / 3x-large (all sizes are detailed in the pattern !)

the knitting kit: your kit contains the wool in the chosen color and for the chosen model size + the pattern in the selected language + the little biches & bûches pouch.

skill level : 2 out of 5
techniques : knit stitch + purl stitch + short rows + picking up stitches (everything is of course explained in the pattern !)

construction : the sweater is worked in stocking stitch with cuffs and collar in ribbing. the upper part of the back and front are worked separately, back and forth, top down to the underarms. from here, the back and front are worked in the round. for the sleeves, you pick up stitches along the armhole, and they are worked top down in the round. there are two collar versions, a classic collar like the photo or an open collar. the sweater is seamless.

dimensions of the finished sweater :
x-small: chest width 92 cm/36.2” - length 54 cm/21.3” - sleeve length 54 cm/21.3"
small: chest width 100 cm/39.4” - length 55 cm/21.7” - sleeve length 52 cm/20.5"
medium: chest width 108 cm / 42.5" - length 57 cm/22.4” - sleeve length 52 cm/20.5"
large: chest width 116 cm /45.7” - length 59 cm 23.2"/ sleeve length 48 cm /18.9"
x-large: chest width 124 cm/48.8” - length 62 cm 24.4"/ sleeve length 46 cm/18.1"
2x-large: chest width 132 cm/52” - length 64 cm/25.2"/ sleeve length 44 cm/17.3"
3x-large: chest width 140 cm/55.1” - length 66 cm 26"/ sleeve length 42 cm/16.5"

how to determine your size : you can take your favorite knitted sweater, worked in a yarn similar to the one you are considering, and measure its dimensions. it may not have the exact same shape, but it will give you an idea of the size to choose ! a sweater in thin wool is often designed a little loose, so it is best to choose a slightly larger than smaller size, and the biches & bûches designs are actually not intended to be worn tight <3
